Genuine Tortoise shell was used in the 1800's as hunting turtles became popular for their shells. Sadly, many turtles were killed for their fancy and ornate features, and many products were made such as jewelry boxes, fancy combs, and fancy cases. With the invention of plastic, many beautiful jewelry, and accessories were able to be produced without killing the turtles for their shells.
