Exceptional Rare French Antique Furniture

Suzy and Pierre Delbee 100x100 Exceptional Rare French Antique FurnitureThe Devoted Classicist Blog featured some of the pictures of the furnishings from the Paris Apartment of Suzy and Pierre Delbee in the Christies Auction Catalogue.

A stand-out piece was a red lacquer secretary signed by Francois Rubestuck dating to circa 1766.  The decorative, fragile piece was not usable, however, because of the narrowness of the room (as noted in JANSEN) but placed there as a work of art.

Consider adding gilt ormolu to your furniture.  Here you see the ormolu is  hammered on to the furniture making these pieces incredibly attractive.  The bright gloss lacquer against the ormolu makes these pieces stand out and rich. French furniture has the shape and lines which can carry deep bright glossy colors, so don’t be afraid of choosing a high gloss for your furniture, as it especially looks great on French furniture.  Find some of the best ormolu for your furniture here.  Dressing up your furniture is like putting on a pair of diamond earrings.  Splurge on some exceptional ormolu for your existing furniture.
